Winning a championship or becoming famous in one’s field are effects that mean nothing without the struggle. The struggle is the reward of the critical work done. Space and time to make something of value happen. To struggle for significant things means success regardless of the result. It’s the little pieces, the daily struggles that make it worthwhile. The real prize is those moments, those acts, and not the outcome. The fight is the reward.
What is the Real Reward?
For a weightlifter, losing weight or gaining muscle is not the reward. The chance to sweat and wrap your hands around the iron and train is the reward. Every moment you choose to live a physical life is the reward.
For an author, writing a best-selling book is not the reward. The act of writing is a reward. Every single moment that you struggle to put words together and create a story that takes on a life of its own is the reward.
For an athlete, winning a championship is not the reward. The chance to fight and compete for something desirable is the reward. Every moment that you step between the lines, put in your best, and test your physical capabilities is the reward.
For an entrepreneur, acquiring a million-dollar business is not a reward. Building something valuable out of nothing is the reward. Every moment that you choose to bet on yourself instead of playing safe is the reward.
For an artist, hearing the praise of critics is not the reward. The act of building something new is the reward. Every single moment you battle to overcome resistance and procrastination, and the battle to express your vision.
